I thought it would be a good idea to start sharing some dog training advice with you on a regular basis. People in Shropshire come to me with all sorts of challenges regarding their canine companions and I always love to help. So I hope you find my new dog training column on thebestof Shrewsbury of use :)

Have a think about this.... Dogs are canine, we are human. There are areas within our relationship with our dogs where we are quite similar but there are also many areas where we are very different. At the end of the day, dogs and humans react and respond in different ways.

When this happens we perceive that we have a problem with the dog, which needs to be addressed. Dogs are thrust into our households and many people expect them to fit in with our routines and wishes straightaway. In these modern times, we are used to things happening very quickly - one click of the mouse, and all that.

But with a dog you need to be patient, calm and expect dog training to sometimes take longer than we anticipate. There are a number of different training methods out there and you have to resist the temptation to flit from one to another just because the first approach doesn't seem to work. It probably will in time. THERE ARE VERY FEW QUICK FIXES WHEN DOG TRAINING YOURSELF!
