Organisers of next month's $10,000 Aegon GB Pro-Series women's tennis tournament at The Shrewsbury Club are looking forward to discovering which players will feature in the event.

Tennis stars coming to Shrewsbury?

Dave Courteen, the club's managing director, believes there is a chance that British star Laura Robson, who won a silver medal with Andy Murray in the mixed doubles at the London 2012 Olympic, could figure as she continues her comeback from injury.

But he said it should soon become clearer just who is likely to line up at the Sundorne Road venue in the popular tournament which will take place from November 6-12.

He added: "We're looking forward to seeing which players take part this time and there should be more British players which is always great.

All will be revealed soon

"There's talk of Laura Robson coming to play here, which would be fantastic. She has played here in the past - reaching the semi-finals as a 14-year-old in 2008 - and she's now on her way back from injury, so it would be a real coup if we could get her here.

"Tara Moore, the British No 4 who played here last year, has since gone on to do well, so it will be interesting to see if she will come back.

"As always, there will be players from overseas competing, which is always exciting, and it will be interesting to see the player list when it is revealed soon."

Local interest

There will hopefully, he added, be some local interest with Chloe Hughes, from Bettisfield, who is a member at The Shrewsbury Club, targeting at least a place in the qualifiers.

Rising French star Oceane Dodin, now a career-best 83 in the world rankings, has won the Shrewsbury tournament for the last two years.

Many leading names in women's tennis, including current world No 1 Angelique Kerber and top British player Johanna Konta, have played in the Aegon event at The Shrewsbury Club in the past.

Admission will once again be free to the well supported tournament throughout the week.
