A Shrewsbury recruitment agency is offering employers a helping hand by providing a free guide to ensure their recruitment strategy is up to scratch.

With latest research indicating three quarters of business owners actually hire the wrong people, Shropshire-based Red Recruitment has put together the free guide to advise local firms of the most common mistakes made when hiring, to help avoid this potentially costly consequence.

Meg Jones, Director at Red Recruitment, said: “Successful businesses are those who have the right people in the right roles, and so hiring the most suitable person for each role is imperative. When the wrong person for a position is hired, it typically means having to refill the position again, and at an average cost of £4,500 per process, can result in severe implications for the business.

“One of the most common mistakes we come across when businesses choose to hire is failing to look in-house. An employer could have the perfect candidate already in their team looking for a new challenge, but if they are overlooked, it may leave them feeling undervalued and then leave as a result.

"We also often come across employers trying to replicate the previous employee. This means they become so fixated on finding that particular person, they in fact turn down other candidates who may be more suitable for the role.

“Some employers are often rather ambiguous when looking for a new member of staff, having not properly considered what they need, and subsequently not constructing a detailed enough job description and specification.

"Ultimately, this means a new candidate is coming into the role with their eyes closed and both employer and employee are unsure exactly what role they will undertake.

“Because of these and many other issues relating to recruitment, and the vital importance for awareness to do it properly, we have put together a comprehensive guide to support employers, and advise of the right steps to take when finding their next employee. The document is available to download from our website www.redrecruitmentsolutions.co.uk, or they can email us on mail@redrecruitmentsolutions.co.uk to request a copy.”
