The statistics are terrifying, but we know the number of fatalities could be reduced if we can increase awareness of the need for early checks and diagnosis.
Currently nine in ten people who get early diagnosis survive mouth cancer, yet the survival rate remains as low as fifty per cent.
Years ago it was mainly older men who contracted the disease, but these days only twice as many men as women suffer from Mouth Cancer and more young people are being diagnosed with the disease than ever before.
Early warning signs of Mouth Cancer include ulcers that do not heal within three weeks, red and white patches in the mouth and unusual lumps or swellings in the mouth.
