The Energy Saving Trust (EST) has completed the most comprehensive study ever of solar water heating systems in which the energy consumption of 88 solar households in the UK and Eire was monitored for a 12-month period.
EST found extremely high levels of satisfaction, with 84% of households “satisfied” and 50% “very satisfied” with their solar hot water systems.
The small percentage who did not select the above satisfaction scores provided valuable information on areas where the solar industry can further improve performance. As Jaryn Bradford, Senior Technical Manager for the Energy Saving Trust, commented:
“This is a technology that works and works well in the UK. Great strides have been made in the standards of installation but that’s not a reason to rest on our laurels – we’d like to see the industry sit down and look at what can be done to ensure everyone has the same, high quality experience.”
