Eating out and Eating In in Shrewsbury

Foodies everywhere are still getting over the absence of MasterChef from the telly. Although it bounced all over the BBC2 schedule like a kangaroo on Red Bull, MasterChef seemed to unite people through food. And food is something taken seriously in Shrewsbury. From restaurants and takeaways to farm shops, a lot of us love to support local suppliers and producers.

Did you get sucked in to MasterChef? Were you amazed at Michel Roux Jr's shot glass cleaning skills? Were you praying someone would get that garnish on the plate now? Or do you not have a clue what I'm talking about? OK, it might not sound like top viewing - a beardy bloke and Mr Potato Head judging haute cuisine - but I'm hoping at the very least Shrewsbury food suppliers saw a leap in business.

Personally, I'm no cook. Pasta and toast I can do. I did go to University, after all. My wife though... wow, what a culinary genius. We get a veg box delivered once a week and, combined with a great Shrewsbury butcher, Emma can create wonders. Her steaks and roast dinners are the best. I read about Gwyneth Paltrow and her wheatgerm diet and think, "Nope, not for me."

If you're a Shropshire foodie and know of any fantastic local food suppliers or restaurateurs that aren't on thebestof but should be, please let us know. Something to keep Shrewsbury's gastric juices flowing till MasterChef returns. FlashForward and Stargate Universe are OK but they ain't great plates of food....
