Daniel Kawczynski, MP for Shrewsbury and Atcham has met with rail officials to further discuss improvements to ShrewsburyRailway Station.

Daniel Kawczynski, MP for Shrewsbury and Atcham said: 

“Substantial investment in recent years, has significantly improved Shrewsbury Railway Station, with more projects planned to secure its long term future as one of Shrewsbury’s finest historic buildings.     

I consider that it is important for visitors to have a good first impression of the town, and a well maintained, attractive railway station is essential.   

The improvements made so far, particularly to the reception and waiting areas has enhanced the appearance of the station considerably and the next planned projects which include refurbishing the toilets is welcomed as they are in need of a makeover. 

Detailed below is a breakdown of the costs of projects that have been completed already (in Black), together with details of future planned works (in Red):   

£180,000 Castle Foregate viaduct refurbishment (Completed)

£450,000 Customer Service Point/Waiting Room/Platform signage. (Completed)

£400,000 Provision of Ticket Barrier. (Completed)

£20,000 Catering facility investment (Completed)

£250,000 Installation of lift for Platform 3. (Completed)

£50,000 Provision of waiting room for Platform 3 (Completed)

£250,000 Rewiring of complete station (Completed)

£50,000 Provision of PA/CCTV systems and information screens. (Completed)

£80,000 Installation of automated ticket vending machines. (Completed)

£9,000 External redecoration. (Completed)

£16,000 Installation of Help pad and CCTV in lifts. (Completed)

£500,000 Maintenance costs of historic listed building. (Completed)

£60,000 Installation of new heating boiler that services the whole station and offices. (Completed)  

£3.7M River viaduct restoration. (Completed)

£2.5M             Additional river viaduct work (money earmarked, due to start 2015/16)

£350,000       Monies made available from National Stations Improvement Programme for refurbishment of ladies, gents and disabled toilet facilities (money earmarked, due to start 2015)

£450,000       Dana Footbridge Structural repairs (money earmarked 2015/6)

£150,000       Improvements to Subway (money earmarked, work not yet scheduled).

£633,000       Car Park resurfacing (money earmarked 2018/19)
