Students from Shrewsbury College are encouraging members of the public to get creative next month and drop in to their pop-up arts and media shop in the town centre.

Students from the art, fashion, media, music and performing arts department at Shrewsbury College will be offering free workshops and demonstrations to those interested in the arts, and handmade items will also be on sale, including; bags, t-shirts, postcards and artwork.

Whether you want to take part or simply support local young talent, everyone is welcome. The pop up shop will be situated in the shop unit, opposite Marks & Spencer on the top floor of the Darwin Centre, from Thursday, 5 March until Saturday, 7 March, from 9.30am until 3.30pm.

Workshops will include, making craft items, printing and portrait painting, DJing and acting. There will be students working in the studio spaces and they will be happy to answer any questions about the courses at Shrewsbury College.

Sarah Kileen, Fashion tutor at Shrewsbury College, said: “The students have been working really hard to prepare to this pop-up-shop. It’s a great chance for our students to showcase their work, but to also get the local community involved in the arts. We will be on hand to talk to members of the public about the courses we offer and the progressions routes.

“This is a great chance for the public to support to see the kind of things our students work on and we look forward to seeing everyone over the three days.”

Kevin Lockwood, Manager of the Darwin, Pride Hill and Riverside Shopping Centres, said: “We are delighted to be able to host the students and would like to develop closer ties with the College.

“Fashion, design and creative skills play a hugely important part in the retail sector were one in four of the UK workforce are employed so this pop-up shop is not just great for our shoppers but important experience for the students.”
