Shrewsbury College is offering a range of routes for you to further your education or enhance your career progression. Whatever your A Level results, or if you didn’t finish them or a similar Level 3 qualification, or if you just want to return to learning, your local College can help.

New courses for September include part-time Foundation Degrees (Fds) in Education; Health Studies; Counselling Theory and Practice; Manufacturing Technology and Electrical and Electronic Technology. Full-time Fds include Sports Coaching and Physical Education; Electrical and Electronic Technology; and Fd in Manufacturing.

Professional qualifications available include those validated by Association of Accounting Technicians (AAT) and Association of Business Executives (ABE).

The College has had longstanding success with the Post Graduate Certificate in Education course, approved by Edge Hill University, and Shrewsbury College was recently graded Outstanding by Ofsted for the delivery of this PGCE.

HNCs and HNDs are also well established as part of the College’s Higher Education offer.

Freyer Rowlands, 19, from Newtown, is studying the HND Performing Arts, she said: “Before joining the HND course I attended Liverpool Hope University for a year, where I studied Creative Performing Arts. I soon realised the course wasn’t right for me, so after much consideration I decided to join the course at Shrewsbury College. It is great that the College offers Higher Education courses locally and for me it has meant saving more money and having a more productive lifestyle.

“Shrewsbury College isn’t the closest college to my home, but it is the only College in a commuting distance that offers this HE course. There are a lot more opportunities and more practical based work on this course than the university one and there is always something exciting going on and the department has a fantastic buzz about it.

“Smaller classes means we get to know people very quickly and everyone here is friendly. I would definitely recommend this course to anyone who is passionate about the subject and who wants to enhance their skills to a professional level and ultimately gain employment in the performance industry.”

Helen Fellows, HE Co-ordinator, said: “Foundation Degrees, HNCs and HNDs in particular are employer-led and universities work closely with employers to ensure these qualifications equip students with the skills they need to be effective in the work place.

“With the addition of potentially saving thousands as opposed to studying further afield and the fact that you can continue to work in your chosen field whilst studying part-time can further supplement the cost. The new facilities as part of a £15m redevelopment, expert teachers and smaller more intimate class sizes means the advantages of studying locally really start to add up.”

To find out about all of the HE routes on offer at Shrewsbury College, come along to the Advice event on 1 September from 5-7pm at London Road.  Additionally there is a special drop in advice event at the College’s Origins Restaurant on London Road on 8 September from 5-7pm for anyone specifically interested in higher level Health and Social Care courses.
