Crossbar Coaching Education in Sport delivers sport across the curriculum in a number of Shropshire schools and also run football academies and holiday courses around the county.

Gavin Cowan, director of Crossbar, said his company are delighted to be teaming up with The Shrewsbury Club, on Sundorne Road, to run varied multi sports days for boys and girls of primary school age from five up to 11.

Sessions operate from 10am to 3pm on all six Fridays during the school holidays up to August 29. They cost just £10 per day.

Gavin said: "We have got good links with The Shrewsbury Club so we came up with the idea to launch an initiative of engaging children through sporting activity throughout the summer.

"A lot of what we do already is based around football and around dance so we wanted to offer something a little bit different.

"Working with The Shrewsbury Club and making use of their fantastic facilities, our coaches are implementing their skills into a range of activities.

"Children are doing a lot of fundamental movement skills, looking at balance, co-ordination, agility, working on what is primary applicable in terms of sport.

"We are using sports such as tennis, football, basketball, dodgeball, anything that we think will help them in terms of their physical literacy. There's a bit of everything."

Gavin, a former Shrewsbury Town defender and AFC Telford United captain, added: "We just want to engage with some of the children in Shrewsbury. We want them to come along, enjoy it and have a fantastic time right on their doorstep.

"Parents can come along and have a coffee, a bit of lunch maybe, watch what their children are up to, and with the facilities at The Shrewsbury Club so impressive it's really a match made in heaven."

Dave Courteen, managing director of The Shrewsbury Club, stressed this was a great fun opportunity for local youngsters to stay fit and active during the long school holidays.

He said: "We recognise the importance of encouraging children to live an active lifestyle and will do all we can with the facilities we have at The Shrewsbury Club to deliver family friendly activity.

"We have our own team of friendly coaches who can provide programmes involving tennis and fitness, but for the summer holidays we wanted to broaden the appeal to other sports to create more variety in our programming.

"We are working with Crossbar Coaching to deliver a series of multi sports days because we know that Crossbar share our values and are committed to delivering excellent coaching in a friendly, fun but educational way.

"Gavin and his team of coaches partner with us in some of our schools programmes and we know that, like us, they strive for excellence. We hope that this summer’s series of programmes will be the first of many and will help to motivate children to take up a wide variety of sports."

Families can take advantage of Crossbar being Ofsted registered and they also offer a childcare voucher scheme.
