From a suitably English afternoon tea to a Wenlock Hamper for a perfect picnic, the Shropshire Food Enterprise Centre in Shrewsbury has something to help you celebrate everything that’s great about British food and drink.
This year British Food Fortnight coincides with the Olympic Games to help bring local artisan food and drink to the forefront in this special year.
The Love British Food Campaign will be celebrated by producers, retailers and restaurants across the country until Sunday 12 August.
The Shropshire Food Enterprise Centre celebrates local food and drink all year round but there is no better time to visit than during British Food Fortnight.
In the TASTE kitchen the menu will be packed full of breakfast and lunch dishes using only the best locally sourced produce and a very English afternoon tea is also on offer along with a selection of local tipples.
On Thursday 9 August there is a demonstration and hands on workshop for “Summer barbecues, salads, dressings and marinades” to help you hone your skills and pick up some top tips.
You will enjoy a delicious lunch and take home the recipes along with half a kilo of burgers and a marinade to use on your barbecue at home.
This is also the season to enjoy a Wenlock Hamper! The town of Much Wenlock in Shropshire is recognised as the inspiration for the modern Olympic Games dating back to the local competitions founded by doctor William Penny Brookes in 1860.
Wenlock Hampers celebrate this heritage by offering a truly local food and drink experience with all products sourced from artisan producers within a 26.2 mile radius of Much Wenlock - a marathon’s distance! Wenlock Hampers can be bought by visiting the online shop www.heff.co.uk/shop
The Local Food Store at Shropshire Food Enterprise Centre is also packed full of top quality food and drink from local producers and tasting sessions will be held in-store throughout British Food Fortnight.
