Can you help the Scope charity?

My name is Kate Green. I'm 24, from Shrewsbury, and currently work as a theatre practitioner. In November, I'm embarking on a massive personal challenge and taking part in a community project in Cambodia with the wonderful charity Scope.

Scope helps to support individuals and families affected by Cerebral Palsy and disability. As part of the project, I have been given the task of fundraising a minimum of £3,200 for the vital work the charity supports in our local areas, throughout the UK and internationally. In the UK and our local areas, Scope offers the Face 2 Face service; Face 2 Face is the one-to-one befriending service for parents of disabled children. The charity also actively support and encourage disabled individuals to work and live independently to enable them to achieve the equality each one of us deserves within our society.

During the working part of the project, I will spend two days trekking 36km up and around the Kulen Mountains in Cambodia, a challenge in itself to get fit for! I will then immerse myself in Cambodian village life and spend four days working and camping in a remote village, building housing for families affected by disability. Thousands of Cambodians have suffered amputations and permanent disabilities due to landmines and years of war in the country. With the vast majority of rural inhabitants having to rely on farming to support themselves, the people left disabled by landmines and fighting have limited ways in which they can look after their families. There are around 20 of us taking part in the project and over the four days we will build housing for two families, offering them a place to call home.

As part of my fundraising efforts, I have held bake sales, coffee mornings, raffles, tombolas, entertainment events, written blogs, been interviewed on a local radio station, appeared in a local paper and I have also received much-needed donations from friends, family and strangers all in support of the project and the charity. I have so far raised over £2,200; however, I'm still working hard to find the remaining £1,000 (and more if I can manage it!) and I truly hope you can be of help!

I understand that the current financial climate is not the best, and that you probably receive thousands of emails requesting donations / support. However, even the smallest amount of money or anything you can donate will be of a massive help to my fundraising and enable Scope to continue their wonderful and vital work.

You can donate via my Just Giving Text number by texting the following:

KATE87 £5 to 70070 (the £5 can be replaced by any amount from £1 to £100, e.g.: KATE87 £1 to 70070 would donate £1 or KATE87 £50 to 70070 would donate £50).

The transaction is completely secure and all the amount pledged in the text will go directly into my fundraising total.

Alternatively, and for more information on Scope and the Cambodia community project, please visit justgiving.com/Kategreen1987.

Finally, a huge thank you for taking the time to read my email. Any of your generosity would be most gratefully received; not only by myself, but by all the individuals and families that Scope are able to support.
