A young artist from Shrewsbury College will have his work displayed at a public art gallery later this spring.

Foundation Art & Design student, Conrad Pack, 19, from Shrewsbury has had his work chosen as part of the Oriel Davies Open exhibition in Newtown. If he wins he will receive a cash prize and a chance to host a solo exhibition later on in the year.

“This is the first competition I have entered whilst studying at the College, and to be selected is fantastic,” said Conrad.

“The artwork I created explores the relationship between man and machine, specifically highlighting the 1997 chess match between Deep Blue, the chess playing computer and Garry Kasparov.

“It is great to get the chance to have my work exhibited, despite whether or not I win and I am looking forward to seeing my art on display alongside other artist’s work.”

“This exhibition is an open call competition to artists nationally and internationally,” explained Paul R. Jones, Fine Art Lecturer at Shrewsbury College. “For Conrad’s work to be chosen is a fantastic achievement, and a testament to his creativity.”

The Oriel Davies gallery in Newtown presents world-class, thought provoking and challenging artwork and holds regular exhibitions throughout the year.

The Oriel Davies Open will run from Saturday, 26 April until Wednesday, 18 June.
