Shropshire pupils experience cultural immersion at sister school in China
Students and staff from Adcote School for Girls have returned from a 10-day cultural exchange programme at Adcote Shanghai, the school's overseas branch located in Songjiang District.
The exchange programme provided Adcote pupils with direct experience of international education and Chinese culture through full immersion in daily school life at the Shanghai campus.
Adcote Shanghai opened in September 2018 as an overseas branch of the Shropshire-based school. The Shanghai campus follows a British curriculum, offering IGCSE and A-Level courses to students aged 13-18, while integrating aspects of Chinese educational excellence.
Located at the foot of Sheshan Mountain, the Shanghai school operates on a 25-acre campus with facilities including science laboratories, sports fields, and specialist learning spaces. The school employs over 200 staff with a 1:7 teacher-student ratio.
The 10-day programme combined academic engagement with cultural exploration. Adcote students attended lessons at the Shanghai campus, experiencing curriculum delivery in an international school environment and collaborating with Shanghai students on joint projects.
Cultural activities included visits to Shanghai landmarks, local markets, and historical sites. Students sampled regional cuisine and experienced daily life in one of China's most significant metropolitan centres.
The exchange programme aligns with Adcote's CLEAR Learning Programme values, particularly developing confidence through international experience, leadership through cross-cultural collaboration, and engagement with global educational perspectives.
International exchange programmes support Adcote's commitment to developing future leaders with global awareness. The experience provides students with practical understanding of different educational approaches and cultural contexts.
For students considering university applications, international experience demonstrates independence, adaptability and cross-cultural competence - attributes valued by higher education institutions.
The programme also strengthens the operational partnership between Adcote Shropshire and Adcote Shanghai, facilitating ongoing curriculum development and best practice sharing between the two campuses.
Adcote School for Girls is an independent day and boarding school for students aged 7-18, located in Shropshire. This year's A-Level resulted in 72% A*-B at A Level this year. They are Finalists for Outstanding Fundraising Achievement for the Independent School of the Year 2025 awards.
