The money is available through the Community Foundation for Shropshire and Telford and must be spent before the end of March or it will be lost.
Lieutenant Colonel Edward Marvin, Director of the Foundation based in Old Potts Way in Shrewsbury, said it was a fantastic opportunity for small, county based groups or organisations to make a difference in their area.
Grants from £1,000 to £5,000 can be applied for to enable local people to create a lasting change in their communities.
Mr Marvin, who has recently joined the charity which celebrates its 21st anniversary next year, said: “People often talk about a wish list for their community but their plans are brought to a halt by lack of funds.
“This is a real opportunity for people to take their plan and see it become a reality.
“A grant of up to £5,000 could make a huge difference to an area which is considered as disadvantaged.”
Mr Marvin added: “With every successful grant application we see a community grow and develop which inevitably results in the improvement of lives for our residents.
“This money and the work we do are all about making a difference in the community and improving the lives of people who live in Shropshire.”
Comic Relief states that successful grants meet at least one of a list of criteria.
Priorities are to increase access to sport and exercise for people who face social exclusion and isolation, increase local services and community cohesion, build skills of local people, and to respond to local economic needs.
The Community Foundation sources grants from external organisations and relies heavily on donations from the business and private sectors to enhance the quality of life for disadvantaged or vulnerable members of the community.
