I've used A-plan (now howdens) for various insurance policies over the years, but my recent experience will mean that I won't touch them again! I recently sold my caravan so rang them out of courtesy to make them aware and stop the policy, there is only a couple of weeks left so didn't expect anything back and fully expected the regular insurance company 'admin' charges to wipe it out. What I didn't expect was the aggressive advisor chasing for additional payment, another £38! I told her to leave it running to which she refused, she then ended the call! The next day I received an email requesting the payment! At the end of the day, I will have no choice but to pay as it will be in the small print that I've agreed on in taking the policy. But I will not be using this company again. They used to be helpful and supportive with brilliant advisors, but now they're just out to get what they can. Avoid at all costs!

Howden insurance have since got in touch and have 'discounted' their fee so that the balance is now £0. So upgraded from 1 to 3 stars.

I have for a long time used comparison sites for my insurance needs. Then I found that the Insurance Companies I were with would usually meet the best quotes if I phoned them. This year my Home insurance went from £91 to £298.
I responded to an advertisement from Howdens, filled in the online form for a quote and got a phone call from the local branch. The agent discussed my requirements and found me a good deal. Not anywhere near £91 but better than most of the comparison sites.

Called in today to get a car insurance quote. Charlie Haswell was very well informed, efficient and incredibly helpful.

I have just gone through Howden Insurance in order to get my private health insurance with Bupa, so I am really new to this service, however, the guy who assisted me (Shane) was very nice and patient and made sure to look after me every step of the way, so I am pleased! The staff at Leamington Spa office under the Manager Andrew are excellent. The staff are friendly, courteous and proved very good service.They provide the personal touch which is necessary when dealing with insurance claims. We cannot fault them at all. that sort of service would not be available if we were dealing with someone on-line - its not the same as seeing people face to face. Yes the quotations may be cheaper but the aftercare would be rubbish!!
