Preparing for Spring at The Langton Garden Centre
31st March 2021

March is always a wonderful month as the days start to get longer and summer starts to creep ever closer.

It’s been another busy month here and we don’t seem to have stopped to catch our breath. Our Garden Centre team have been busy getting lots of fantastic new stock out. Our Gift Centre team have been updating our clothes section, putting out all the Spring/Summer collection we have brought in. On top of this our Greenhouse Café team had a fantastic Mother’s Day to contend with and the 120 orders we had for our Mother’s Day afternoon teas!

However, our main priority remains protecting our staff and customers from COVID-19, helping to reduce the spread of the virus. Therefore, we have been maintaining and regularly reviewing the COVID secure guidelines we have in place.

We have been up to quite a lot this month from updating what is on our shelves to preparing for Mother’s Day. The promise of Spring is showing itself in force, with the Magnolia buds just starting to break, and the Cherry blossoms starting to show their colour. The first signs of the fresh green shoots are peeping out too, a sure sign the explosion of life that this most vibrant of seasons brings is just around the corner. We've had masses of plants delivered this month, with more and more arriving all the time, so be sure to come and see us and all of our beautiful plants soon.

As I said, we served over 100 Mother’s Day afternoon teas on the 13th and 14th of March, customers were thrilled with the selection of sandwiches on white & brown bread, crisps, a white chocolate & raspberry scone as well as a selection of cakes.

We've also taken our first delivery of tomato and chilli plants this month, and while we know it is early, we already know there's going to be a shortage this year, so we're getting in early so you can too! We have a great selection of the best varieties for home growing in stock now, with more to follow in the coming weeks, but be sure to keep them inside at this stage, either in the greenhouse or conservatory/windowsill to protect them from any potential frost.

We also have a fantastic selection of 'hardy' outdoor veg in now too, including lettuce, cauliflower, carrots, onions, beetroot, broad beans and many more.

There was also a birthday here during March. Our cats Pepper and Pumpkin turned one on the 21st of March. Although we are not sure of their exact birthday, we had worked out it was around that time. Since they joined us, they’ve got up to lots of mischief and found out which is their favourite place to nap. We are so glad we got them and look forward to many years of mischief ahead.

So, Spring is now here and with us now having an extra hour of daylight there is that much more time in the day to get out in the garden. With that in mind we are here to help you with all your gardening needs. From compost to quirky plants, we have it all and a team that is willing to help with any enquiry.

We’re open 9am to 5pm Monday to Saturday and 10am to 4pm on Sundays and look forward to seeing all our wonderful customers soon!!
