Having an established and successful outside catering business at The Wistow Rural Centre in Leicestershire, of course we always try to accommodate the individual wishes of our customers.
I find it fascinating, therefore how trends change, particularly when it comes to weddings, noticing a more personal influence recently to often move away from 'tradition'.
This last year in particular there’s been a strong spirit of individualism, with couples keen on infusing their ceremonies with their own personality. They want to communicate who they are with a wedding that feels very personal and unique.
For example, current top trends include a British afternoon tea with top blooms roses, peonies, hydrangers, dahlias and ranunculus which continue to be favourites.
Champagne with a twist and home-grown cocktails are also top of the priority list.
And there is now a trend for more 'family style' dining. Guest interaction is a big goal and nothing gets conversation started quite like a meal served family style. It’s relaxing and works well, with guests feeling more confident to socialise with new acquaintances.
And when it comes to the all important wedding cake, 'tempting to touch' especially ruffled and tulle looks are very important for cakes recently. Lace, patterns, pleats and textured buttercream frosting are also strong trends for brides going for a vintage or soft, romantic feel.
For modern weddings, texture might be 3 dimensional lattice, herringbone or other geometric patterns. Another tactile approach is to have black fondant and then to hand-paint it to look like chalkboard.
If you are planning a wedding or any other special occasion, why not talk to us about your individual ideas and catering needs. We at Wistow Cafe Bistro would be very pleased to help and advise you.
