Claire Bryers - Landlady of The Black Horse, Foxton

Hello you lovely lot!

It's been a while since my last update, and time has a knack for slipping through our fingers, but I've got some exciting news to share. So, grab a cup of your favorite brew, or maybe something a tad stronger, and settle in for the latest scoop!

As autumn has now well and truly arrived, I want to begin with a personal note. The outpouring of support, the kind comments, and the beautiful cards that followed my last blog post about my MS diagnosis touched me deeply. I can't thank you enough. With the unwavering support of my family and friends, I can confidently say that I'm "doing OK" and even managing to maintain a positive outlook on the future. Much of that positivity comes from all of you, and for that, I am profoundly grateful.

As many of you are aware, The Black Horse is a pub that takes pride in its inclusivity. We welcome all, without exception, (unless, of course, they ruffle the feathers of our beloved landlady – then they'll swiftly find themselves acquainted with the exit!) Over the years, we've had the pleasure of serving our loyal regulars and extending a warm welcome to holidaymakers and travelers passing through, allowing us to showcase the beauty and culture of our region. Our experiences, with a very few exceptions, have been overwhelmingly positive, and we've had the privilege of meeting wonderful people who've appreciated our beer, food, banter, and, most importantly, our heartfelt hospitality. So I ask you to continue helping us welcome new and past visitors to our pub and tearoom in the same way.

So, what does this autumn hold in store for you?

Let's dive into the details.

Firstly, don't forget to grab our "Dates for Your Diaries" leaflets, available at the pub and tearoom, as well as on our website's homepage. They're the perfect way to stay updated on our upcoming events, especially if you're not a regular on social media.

I'm thrilled to introduce our new seasonal menus, which will change monthly to cater to various budgets, demands, and seasonal availability. Keep an eye on the Menus page of our website and our Facebook page for updates.

In some more exciting news, our popular Pie & Grills menu is now available for both lunch and dinner every Wednesday and Thursday. Additionally, our brand-new Burger & Pizza night menu is available for takeout, allowing you to place your order, enjoy a pint while you wait, and then savour a delicious meal at home!

Our QUIZ NIGHTS are undergoing a slight change as well. Starting from October 11th, we're moving them to the 2nd WEDNESDAY of each month. The format remains the same – teams of up to 6 people, a £10/team entry fee with a 50-50% split of prize money between a charity and the winning team. However, the charity chosen each month will now be at the 'discretion of the landlady,' and there'll be a fun consolation prize for the team coming last each month – consider it a token of our appreciation for showing up!

Now, here's a big announcement!

A CHRISTMAS DINNER & DANCE is scheduled for FRIDAY, DECEMBER 15th. You can pick up a leaflet from the pub or tearoom, along with an order form to secure your spots. These are expected to sell out quickly, so don't hesitate to book early – you won't want to miss it!

And now, fresh off the press:

Remember, you heard it here first! – we have some 'Watch Out For' invitations (coming very soon!):

  •     DINNER & DANCE NIGHTS – not just during the holiday season but as an occasional treat throughout 2024.

  •     New LIVE EVENTS with Dinner

  •     CHRISTMAS 'BIG' BREAKFASTS – prepare for a breakfast experience like no other!

We'll add these new events to our Upcoming Events page on the website once they're finalised. But I can spill the beans on a special night planned for SUNDAY, JANUARY 7th – think of it as a 'Sing Along Blow-Out January Blues' event featuring up to 15 or more incredibly talented professional singers! I'm as intrigued as you are, but for now, make sure to mark it in your diary.

If you've perused our September 'Dates for Your Diary' leaflet, you've probably noticed our new 'OPEN THE BOX' feature. It's a chance to win prizes or cash in exchange for £1 tickets, with 50p from each ticket going to the chosen charity of the month. We'll draw a winner at the end of each month, so feel free to join in. Just enquire about it when you visit us for a drink or a meal – the more tickets we sell, the more we can raise for a good cause, and the more cash you could win!

Lastly, a reminder that on the 1st Wednesday of every month (formerly Tuesday), we reserve the main restaurant for The Classic Car Club. But fret not, as the dining room and bars will remain open, so you can still enjoy our Pie & Grills Offer.

That wraps up this update. Oh, and one more thing – I'll be on holiday with the Chef in November! Please keep an eye on our Facebook page for updates, as we might have a temporarily reduced menu during that time.

Wishing you a splendid autumn filled with exciting events. The team and I can't wait to welcome you back to The Black Horse Pub and Tearoom. Before you know it, Christmas will be here, and we'll be spreading the holiday cheer with a hearty "Ho, Ho, Ho!!"

Take good care,

With love to all,
Claire xx
