I stayed with my wife for a night when at a Ball. Chris and Carol were very welcoming. The room was fantastic and to a standard you would expect at a fine hotel. Breakfast was beautiful and cooked to order. Will stay again even though home is very close.

We stayed here when attending a Ball at the Barn.

The hosts, Chris and Carole gave us a really warm welcome and nothing was too much trouble for them.

The room was excellent as was the quality of the breakfast.

Highly recommend "The George"

This is the second time we have stayed at The George, both times has been in the Ashley suite, the second at our request. The room is very nice and has the features of a barn conversion. Both times my wife has commented on how comfortable the bed was and even asked Chris the owner where we could buy the same mattress. The breakfast was fantastic with quality food! Chris made sure that we were well looked after and was very pleasant. Would recommend.

New mgmt. and recent new chef. Excellent food and atmosphere. Proper village pub. I've not stayed, but they have rooms/B&B too.

We had not been to The George for quite some time and were told that the new owners had made a good start so we ate there on Saturday night.
There is a lot about the pub which was engaging and the styling in the dining area was charming and the bar (including the dog) was perfectly fine too. Rustic springs to mind and the owners have considered the locals who like to pop out for a pint and still feel that they are in a local pub and not just a dining pub.
Both my husband and I chose different meals and both of us shared the same opinion that it was all ok but not more than that. From my point of view, both of my courses would have benefited from extra seasoning. The cod dish was almost very good as the coconut sauce was a great idea and the quality of the fish was excellent.
But, the size of the serving was very small, even though I had a soup starter I didn't feel comfortably full at the end of the meal. I dearly wanted to have some buttered new potatoes which would certainly have helped. I am not a salt fiend, but really didn't want to add as much salt as I had to.
On the other hand, my husband's confit duck was a generous portion and came with a side order of carrots. I had one and again it was underseasoned.
The chef asked us if everything was ok, and maybe we should have made our feelings known, but the restaurant was heaving and it seemed inappropriate to make a fuss.
Their pricing was reasonable and I would have been happy to have paid a touch more so that I could have had extra vegetables as an option, as I genuinely feel that my main course was meagre.
There really was a good atmosphere in the restaurant and the owners clearly care about what they are doing. My review does not reflect the views of the majority of the diners who have given their opinions, but perhaps the owners could think about my concerns as the overall impression I had was that it was bland due to lack of appropriate seasoning.

Visited 'The George' on a miserable wet Wednesday night as we were keen to see how the Pub and Restaurant were doing since being taken on again in the Autumn. As it was mid-week and the weather was dire there were just a smattering of locals in the bar enjoying a drink. There's a good selection of ales and some quality Spirits on offer over the bar.
Pub dog 'Crunchie' is delightful and offered a warm welcome as did the hosts.Transpired we were the only diners booked in for the early part of the evening, but this may again have been down to the conditions, and the fact that the place had been rammed the night prior due to the 'Valentine's Day' lovebirds being in.
I for one was pleased that the Menu was not extensive, as that always beggars the question how do chefs manage to juggle all those options without compromising quality? What was on offer was varied, and we plumped for a shared Baked Cheese starter, accompanied by homemade Focaccia and Red Onion relish. Naughty but very nice !For Mains we both plumped for the very generous Duck breast on Rosti with ginger and Lapsang Souchong soaked raisins. The duck was perfectly cooked and the flavours were excellent.
We're beginning to sound a bit like 'Howard and Hilda' by both going for the same food choices, as for dessert we once again went for the same dish, which was an excellent melting Chocolate Souffle type thingy with homemade Turkish Delight Ice Cream...and a delight it was !All washed down with a reasonably priced and well chosen NZ Sav Blanc.
I'm at times a difficult one to please when out dining as (say so myself) I'm no mean Chef. I have nothing but praise for the quality of cooking and presentation of each of the courses. We shall soon be back and would encourage others to get along and try it out !
The George is still very much a work in progress, but we are sure our hosts will make a very good go of it.

They say that community pubs are fading away , this little charmer nestled away in the welland valley is a treasure not to be lost.It offers good wholesome food at sensible prices ,great local range of ales ,and hosts that are friendly , even the dog crunchie is very friendly .
The food we ordered was terrific ,my turkey escalope was amazing ,the cranberry sauce was elegant and very tasty, and the steak was cooked to perfection ,would have liked some onion rings and a mushroom ,but having said that it was simply delicious, all in all a very pleasant country pub ,long may it continue to shine 😌

We have been to The George several times now for Sunday Lunches but not for an evening meal, so we have decided to do this for my Birthday and have to say that we were very surprised at how good the meal was. Also Chris was very thoughtful as it was my Birthday and surprised me with a Candle and Happy Birthday written in Chocolate on my dessert plate.
In our mind, this is top nutch food for a very reasonable prices and this comes from someone who has spent over 14 years in the catering business.Yes, they have a dog and it has free range in the Pub, but it is a family orientated Pub and Crunchie is family (If you are a dog lover).

My wife and I went for lunch today never having visited the pub before, everyone was very friendly and the food was very good, we both had the beef and had a lemon and ginger brioche and chocolate brownie for dessert, the prices were very reasonable and it's good to see this pub doing well.

Just undergoing a refurb, had their opening night. Very friendly staff. They will soon be serving food and have rooms to rent. They still have a few things to finish but overall it's looking great. Lovely place to visit. Shall be stopping overnight soon for a friends wedding and shall also be going back for an evening out.

Great to see this village pub once again open for business. The new landlord Chris and his wife Carole have spent a lot of time and effort to reopen The George and a great job they have done. The food is lovely and the atmosphere is warm and cosy. Will be back again soon

We stayed at the George last weekend, five couples, celebrating my husbands 70th birthday.....a young 70, I might add! The rooms are very tastefully decorated with everything you need for an overnight /weekend stay. Very comfortable beds and lovely plump duvets. Breakfast, evening meal and Sunday lunch was superb, in very relaxed surroundings. Nothing was too much trouble for our lovely hosts. We met Crunchie the friendly family dog several times, along with local dog Daphne. Very friendly locals who had a good laugh when my husbands cake candle set off the smoke alarm! We used to visit the George when in the hands of previous owners before we moved out of the area. The atmosphere has not changed and we will be back to visit in the near future without hesitation. A lovely, country pub.

Had an enjoyable meal here but thought it was a little pricey. Pub car park not open so you need to park on the village roads.
Reason for low rating is that we were surprised that the landlords dog has freedom to roam all over the place, including the restaurant whilst dining. Not something that happens in McDonalds so why is it allowed in a gastropub?

Stayed here Saturday 12th November Bed breakfast and we had the evening meal for our anniversary. Set in a stunning location this beautiful pub delivered a a fantastic overnight break. The coach house has been turned into very comfortable bedrooms. We stayed in the Ashley room, double, with a excellent on suite shower. Very roomy with tv, tea and coffee facilities, dressing table and built in wardrobes. The pub itself is very "ye old worldly " and it was delightful to sit and have our drinks and meal in the dining area adjacent to the bar, with a real log fire burning. The food is superb, we chose 3 courses which was presented beautifully, at very reason prices. The staff are friendly and nothing is too much trouble, Chris and Carole, the landlords were fabulous hosts, not forgetting Dawn who made sure we were not kept waiting. It was also a pleasure to meet Crunchie, the staffie. Overall we could not fault our stay and are definitely going back before Christmam to enjoy its charm , and explore more of the surrounding area.

Despite a full house, the landlord pulled out all the stops providing game pie, roast tates and fresh veg, followed by a wholesome apple crumble. A lovely evening and a great atmosphere in the pub.

My extended family and I ate at the George for the first time on Sunday. We'd heard that the food was very good and we were not disappointed. There was a great choice of starters, we opted for the Prawn Cocktail and Mixed Rutland hams - both were lovely. The roasts (beef, lamb and pork) were all great. the bottle of Morgon was fantastic and reasonably priced. Overall a great, welcoming and personable experience. well done to Chris, Carol and Dawn who looked after us so well - thank you! we'll be back...
