We stayed at this pub to attend a family wedding near by, Chris, the owner/chef/barman and all round good guy met us a showed us our room. We had all four rooms which are above and beside a restored Coach House, they were very comfortable with a nice bathroom. It is a very nice village and the pub is the only place to go, it is not well frequented by locals (too posh for pubs!!) but we thoroughly enjoyed it. Breakfast is a pure delight - try the full English, the sausages are superb - best ever and I have eaten some sausages !! We were all back for the evening sit down and Chris, with a couple of locals, made us so welcome, he joined us in the chit chat and was good company. Thanks Chris for a great stay, Frances says hello!! We will definitely stay again and explore the area, it is a lovely part of the country.

I really do want to give a good review but I was so disappointed. Visited in mid week. Only one other table who were ordering as we arrived. An hour after we ordered we finally got out meals. My meal was a disaster. I had ordered the same as 2 others in my party. None of them looked the same one had more bacon whilst I had more onions. the other 2 had vegetables I had none. My liver was served black and was so overdone I could not cut through it. I asked about my vegetables the chef came out and apologised saying he had forgotten to put them in the plate. I pointed out what sorrowful passed for liver and he did offer to cook more. Thankfully I did not have to wait for another hour for my replacement. The liver was better it was very soft but was disappointed to have 1 piece of broccoli and 2slices of carrots a meagre portion compared to my fellow diners. The presentation was a lot to be desired. We refused a dessert as one of us had to get up for work the next morning!!!. I also found the waitress very curt just took our plates without asking if it was ok and also stretching over to take things from table without any excuse me.All in all a bad day at the office for staff. It may be some time before I return. I believe that the chef should be spending time in kitchen fulfilling orders rather than chatting to customers and greeting newly signed in overnight visitors. Shame.

Stayed here for two nights to visit the bird fair at Rutland Water.
We had a friendly greeting from Chris the owner who showed us to our accommodation in a converted coach house out the back of the pub. Our room was en-suite and very comfortable. We had two nights good sleep. We ate in the restaurant on both nights and for breakfast each morning. The food was tasty and cooked by Chris, who made an excellent host.
Will definitely stay again next time we're in the area.

Stayed here for just one night - on the return from a long trip down South. We were looking for a village Inn with good food, good accommodation, dog friendly, and a nice bar/range of drinks. This ticked all the boxes. Had a really lovely stay and we will certainly go back. Rooms were great, evening meal and breakfast excellent, bar well stocked with a good choice of wines/ales/spirits. Great hospitality. Dog was made very welcome too, and just a short walk from the Inn is a good recreational area/fields to let the dog run. Very good value for money.

We stayed for two nights at the George for a wedding nearby. The George is a handsome pub in a very pretty village. There is a courtyard behind the pub and there is an old coach house that has been converted into very comfortable rooms, clean with good facilities and very comfy beds. We slept well both nights. We had a very friendly welcome from Chris on the Friday after our drive and the pub dog Crunchie, a very gentle natured staffie. Chris was helpful and accommodating throughout our stay and Crunchie is just a delightful presence. On the Friday night we met friends but had a late pint in the bar, which was full of friendly locals with a great atmosphere. Both days breakfast set us up well, with yogurts, cereal, a delicious cooked breakfast (good veggie option) and croissants. We had a lovely stay and in comparison to our friends at the wedding who also stayed locally for a comparable price, our stay at the George was an excellent standard for a very good price. If we find ourselves in that neck of the woods again, we know where to go. Thank you Chris and Crunchie.

Stayed with various members of my family at this great hostelry, whilst attending my niece's wedding in a nearby village. The owners, Chris and Carol, were great hosts and the food was excellent. Accommodation was very comfortable and scrupulously clean. I look forward to going back soon.

Chris also catered for the wedding feast - outstanding food

Excellent business lunch at this friendly and welcoming village pub. The locally brewed ale was tip top, and my words could not do justice to Chris' heavenly Moroccan Chicken Tagine!

The George pub in Ashley is in a quaint village, very picturesque beautiful houses, village feeling about the place locals very friendly
The pub has welcoming feel about it, we stayed in the coach house which was clean and well presented, white linen and shower was hot. Only downfall was the tea and coffee which was fair trade and milk which was small pots had a funny taste the coffee bags were very strong and the taste was bitter.
Overall a very pleasant stay, we eat in the pub the food was nice we would stay there again.
Full English breakfast was well presented and the poached eggs were perfect . Reasonably priced for a night.
