‘Outstanding’, ‘Fantastic’ Mind-blowing’ just some of the thousands of responses from The Cathedral Illuminated which is now in it’s fourth year running, bringing Christmas to Staffordshire -‘the creative county’.

After winning The What’s On Readers Award for The Best Event in Staffordshire twice over, the artistic collaboration Luxmuralis who brought ’10,000 Angels’ and ‘Star of Wonder’ to national acclaim return this year to Lichfield Cathedral offering even more family Christmas Joy and tradition through this spectacular light and sound experience.

This December the whole family can enjoy Christmas at Lichfield Cathedral where the whole Cathedral Close shall be adorned with light, sound and mesmerising displays of visual projection as people are invited to take a winter walk through a wonderland experience, see spectacular Son-et-Lumiere projected onto the Cathedral Chapter house and West Front set to bespoke music composed by David Harper and visual artwork created by Peter Walker. And it doesn’t end there, once around the external light shows viewers are invited inside the Cathedral where the interior is fully adorned and all the 20,000 children who have been participating this year in making the largest yet art installation with artist Peter Walker will see their 20,000 hand made Doves of peace flying above them as they suspend in the Nave ceiling. Further inside viewers get to hear live readings of the nativity story, and view the festival of Christmas trees that are each individually decorated by local charities, schools and businesses.

“Every year we try and bring something new to the illuminations, and for 2018 it is bigger and better.  It is fantastic that this has become a tradition to many families in the area and that people now visit the Cathedral illuminated from around the country.  We look forward to welcoming everyone this Christmas to Lichfield Cathedral.”
