On a recent tour we were taken to a visit to the wonderful Lichfield Cathedral. Always somewhere I had wanted to go but never got around to it. It was a lovely day and the staff were very knowledgeable.

We even had tea and cake in the Chapters Coffee Shop which just ended a perfect day out.

What a wonderful place Lichfield Cathedral is? You just can't imagine how they even began to construct it all those years ago. If you have not been you are missing a reat treat.

But if you are in the area you cannot help but be blown away with how impressive this building is. The cathedral has three spires and I think maybe a little underated in the world of cathedrals?? If you sit by the lake to the east of the cathedral then you have a great biew; as on a sunny day, you get the view twice (reflected in the water) and add to that weeping willow trees, ducks quaking and a nice breeze then you are all set. Obviously not an all day event, just a welcome diversion; combined with a pub lunch and some shopping in Lichfield maybe?

Not my normal thing to review, but very few religious places look as impressive as Lichfield Cathedral in the UK

This beautiful medieval cathedral is well worth a visit. It is very well looked after and has some fascinating features including a book of gospels 1300 years old! Be sure to go into the Chapter House (it's free) to see this and also the Saxon angel. While you are in the Close be sure to have a look at Vicar's Close and Erasmus Darwin's house (Charles Darwin's grandfather). Be aware that the cathedral's Lady Chapel is currently being restored. If you get a chance attend evensong, sit in the choir and hear the lovely cathedral choir

What a truly amazing and awe inspiring this place is. The only medieval Cathedral with 3 spires, of which one you can climb inside on a Saturday. The staff are all friendly and most helpful and obviously have a great pride in the place they work. There is a smashing Cafe on the site as well so you can get a cuppa and piece of cake or more if you want it.
