The sense of wonder as you enter Lichfield Cathedrals main doors is almost overwhelming.
To sit there with the hustle and bustle of life going on around you is so relaxing. From Saxon Church to modern day cathedral you can feel it the place is timeless. Look out for the bullet holes and cannon damage from the civil war. Just a lovely place to wonder spend time and meditate. Try and get there when the choir is practicing the harmonics are beautiful.

We enjoyed our visit to Lichfield Cathedral because it very nice place to visit. The staff who is a gentleman in cathedral was so helpful to us and give us bit of history. The lady in shop is kind and respect us well. The building is very interesting anyway. We shall come back again. Happy blessing to the staff in Lichfield Cathedral

Lichfield Catherdral is steeped in history and is a fascinating place to visit. Peaceful and calm for moments of reflection (and worship if you're religious...obviously!!) But lots of history literally carved into the walls and on display.
My partner was a teacher in the town for many years and so was able to tell me all the fascinating stories attached to the place - the defaced gargoyles, the tiny cat carved and hidden in one room etc. I was lucky to have her give me the private tour but there are always many knowledgeable volunteers who are happy to answer any questions and give you any information you want.
It's a great place for all ages to spend an hour or so and a small voluntary donation in the collection box is no doubt always gratefully received. Well worth a visit with many other historical attractions just a few moments away as well

Always enjoy a visit to Lichfield - a great city with excellent shops, good pubs, restaurants and friendly people - plus a superb Cathedral: nothing more required for a short break or longer holiday.

this is a beautiful place to visit. there is no fee but a donation is asked for. the gothic architecture is stunning. as are all the monuments statues etc. when we went some of the stained glass windows had been removed for repair so it looked a bit strange but cant wait to see them replaced to their former glory.there is a cathedral shop. and outside the cathedral is a lovely little tea rooms. definitely worth a visit.

We combined this visit with the Erasmus darwin house which is just closeby.The Cathedrall has a wonderfull history and is also a masterpiece of building, rebuilding and alteration.

Beautiful Cathedral with friendly volunteers to help with information. Beautiful stained glass although the Belgian glass in the east windows is currently away for renovation, but with the plain glass in it's place there is a much brighter feel to the whole east end. Much to see and admire - and don't forget to look at the Cathedral all round the outside. There are innumerable stone effigies of Saints and Monarchs, I've never seen so many on one Cathedral. Amazing.

I fell immediately in love with this Cathedral on first sight! The masonery on the building exterior is a sight to behold, and a camera is essential. Inside there are plenty of personnel ready to answer enquiring minds on the history of the Cathedral. But Oh my goodness if you are very lucky, you may be able to eavesdrop on what must be one of the sweetest sounds on earth. Choir practice. For a good half an hour I was totally entranced, transported to another world!

This is a dramatic cathedral (beseiged more than once!) known for its remarkable West front and its three spires. It is full of associations (St Chad, the Staffordhire regiments, New Zealand's first dioceses), and remarkably doesn't charge any entrance fee still. The ancient glass in the East end is being restored at present but should return in about 2014. Oh, and the music played here is real quality stuff!

Sorry, but not sure how you rate a cathedral - giving it less than 5 stars would seem to indicate it lacked something that other cathedrals have, and to me it had more or less what all non-modern cathedrals have - space, wonderful architecture, history. This one was surprisingly warm on a cold December day. If you like visiting Cathedrals and churches then do make a point of going to this one. It has three spires! You won't find that anywhere else in England, apparently. And there's a lovely exhibition in the crypt, which has (amongst other things) some of the Stoke Anglo-Saxon hoard on display - only a few pieces, but enough to make you want to go and see the others in Stoke.

I love this cathedral. It is the right side of awe inspiring whilst still being welcoming, which is a hard feat to achieve. There is so much to see in all the different areas, from the original uncovered paintings on parts of the walls, the 'Gabriel' from St Chad's tomb to trying to search for the green men everywhere! I think we've found 3 but I'm told that there are lots of them! The hirkenrode window is missing at the moment, in for restoration, but actually it allows you to see that end of the cathedral in a different light, literally! So not necessarily a bad thing. If you are anywhere near Lichfield, or just anywhere in Staffs, go and have a look...

What a fantastic place for a wedding. Our son was very lucky to be able to be married in this truly wonderful seting. Well worth a visit and Lichfield town is a delightful place with a mix of old and new. There is also a lovely park opposite the Cathedral.

Amazing stone statues totally adorn the outside walls of the cathedral set on a hill in this lovely city.the three spires are unique .
Inside what is refreshing NO TURNSTILES DEMANDING ENTRANCE FEE'S. instead a really welcoming lady giving out a plan and answering all enquiries.
In the process of restoration to the stain glass windows gives you an opportunity to see the ceiling carving in clear light.
Lunch time service was a peace full experience well worth staying for.

Following the service the verger walks her 3 Siamese cats around the close ( worth seeing in its own rite).

Lichfield is a small cathedral but unique in having three spires and a very ornate and decorated interior. The Close has some magnificent buildings too.
There is no entrance fee, just a request for a donation. The choir is fantastic and well woth attending a sung service to hear. There is a book and gift shop, a coffee shop and toilet fascilities in The Close.

Beautiful place. The helpers were very friendly. The only flaw was a charge for taking pictures inside which I thought was a little mean. However a beautiful place with a very tranquil feeling.
