We were staying near Lichfield to visit the National Memorial Arboretum so popped into town on a quiet Sunday afternoon to visit the cathedral. What an amazing building. I love our Norman and medieval built heritage and this is about 800 years old. Fantastic statues on the front and an amazing very worn statue of Charles II to one side. Helpful volunteer guides to welcome you and no fixed entry fee were a bonus.

The only disappointment was not Lichfield's fault - my camera battery failed as I tried to take what would have been the first of many photos. A good reason for a return visit next time we travel up country.

There is also a cafe on the approach to the cathedral which serves tasty snacks and light meals. All in all a great place to while away a few hours.

My wife and I stopped off in Lichfield to break our journey south and we were very pleasantly surprised. We followed the street signs to the catherdral which is situated in a lovely conservation area. The frontage of the catherdral is stunning with many beautifully carved figures each with its own unique design.
Entrance to the cathedral was free (donations welcomed) and the interior doesn't disappoint, we spent an interesting hour wandering round and there were several helpful guides to answer any questions
Coupled with the City itself a visit to this fantastic piece of English heritage is highly recommended.

I enjoy visiting English cathedrals, especially if I can catch the organ playing or a choir singing. Lichfield cathedral is one of the most interesting of the many English cathedrals I have visited, unique in that it is the only English cathedral with three spires and is the cathedral that was most damaged during the English Civil War. It has an ornate façade and has been wonderfully restored. The Chapter House of the cathedral contains the St. Chad gospels which predate the Book of Kells. The gospels, in Latin and with some wonderful illustrations, include all of Matthew and Mark, and part of Luke. The St. Chad gospels are visible but protected, however there is an interactive display that allows visitors to turn the pages of the gospels to view the pages. The cathedral contains some gorgeous stained glass windows and has a choir. I attended Evensong on two consecutive days and was able to hear both the men's choir and the boy's choir.

The new(ish) displays in the cathedral chapter house are absolutely fascinating. In addition to the Chad Gospels we now have the superb Lichfield Angel sculpture, and a small display of items from the Mercian Hoard. The combination of these three elements- each one an amazing survival- has made Lichfield a must -see destination for anyone interested in Anglo- Saxon history. The room stewards on duty were enthusiastic and well informed and made our visit a pleasure

Beautiful and has the wow factor. You have to sit and take in the surroundings and imagine what it was like when this was built. Just beautiful and to take a leisurely stroll inside and around the grounds on a nice day is most enjoyable. Must see when coming to lichfield. I over heard a little girl tell her mum that it was the "Disney castle"

What a wonderful Cathedral. Certainly one of the best that I have visited. The architecture is something really special, as ts the atmosphere in and around it.
Easy to find, just off the Pedestrianised town.

Gorgeous cathedral full of interest with superb and knowledgeable guides on the day we visited. Lovely setting-don't miss Stow Pool as well as the more obvious Minister Pool in front of the cathedral.

This building is architecturally beautiful, the carvings are intricate. It is easy to see the progress over the years as you stroll outside along the side. The stories and traditions are interesting a little gem nestled in the Midlands.

Coming from Coventry where you have to pay £8 to enter the local Cathedral I was pleasantly surprised that Lichfield Cathedral is free to visit but donations welcomed .Was greeted by a friendly volunteer who gave us a leaflet about the building and it's history .
You are struck with awe and wonder as you wander around this historical important Religious building .Part if the Staffordshire hoard was on display which was an added bonus .

The distinctive three spires of the Cathedral can been seen throughout this quaint English City. A warm welcome is provided by the vergers, and it is easy to walk around in 15 minutes.
Most of what you see is Victorian including the over-restored West End where the original statues have been replaced.
This is an ancient centre of worship, but lacks that sense of presence that I have experienced in many churches, mosques and synagogues.

Architecturally the Cathedral was fascinating and the guides, in particular one chap whose name we didn't record, was so interesting, pointing out the many facets of interest that we would have missed had we not spoken to him. The Cathedral does not charge for entry, which they could do I'm sure, but this encourages a generous donation after the visit.

A wonderful experience awaits those who visit this Ancient but lesser known Cathedral.
The wonderful interior reveals excellent marble and stone sculptures.
Convenient access and parking coupled with its closeness to the old "city" of Lichfield makes this an excellent day out.

I visited Lichfield Cathedral with a friend last week. Parking was quite easy and very close to the Cathedral. Looking up at it made me gasp . All the intricate carvings and statues were very interesting . Once inside , an overwhelming sense of calm and regardless of which faith group you belong to , it seemed once inside the cathedral, it didn't matter because there were candles you could light and pray for world peace along with whatever you do desired . There was a sense of togetherness and of inclusion. People of all nationalities were present indoors visiting. The choir were in rehearsal- so heartwarming . A must see !

Lichfield is full of history, it's not a huge city, it's a small town atmosphere with plenty to offer. The cathedral is particularly interesting. It's got a wonderful feel to it and they have some great concerts on throughout the year.

From it's outward splendor to the magnificant interior displays, this venue wows the visitor in so many ways.

The icing on this extremely grand cake is that the staff are so extremely warm and welcoming. We recently visited the Staffordshire Hoard (part of it was on display at the Cathedral) and the person on hand to answer questions was fabulous.

Highly recommended and must see if you are going to Lichfield.
