Though Lichfield is no longer a major city, years ago the Cathedral was a major site, alongside Canterbury and York. The building reflects this, so whether Religion or Architecture is your thing, I am sure you will enjoy your visit, especially as some pieces of the Staffordshire Hoard are on display.

It's a fantastic piece of architecture...
Well worth a visit!!
Just having a look at the outside is
Breathtaking...
Inside is very somber and extremely interesting even if you're not from Lichfield.

Beautiful cathedral with numerous stained glass windows. The Lichfield Angel carving dating back to 700 A.D. was uncovered during an excavation to install the unique Nave Altar which can be raised and lowered according to the usage of the cathedral. Unfortunately, St. Chad's Gospels was on `on loan' to the National History museum for an exhibition but there IS a video of it in the Chapter House. Well worth a visit.

Very, very nice the cathedral was largely empty when we arrived and so enjoyed a free wonder after receiving excellent instructions and descriptions with point and places of interest to see from the helpful and informative guides. Sadly the organ was just being started and "warming" up or gaining air! But not disappointed

This is definitely a gem in the historic small city of Lichfield. It is enormous, imposing and Gothic though we were surprised to be told that its the 3rd smallest cathedral in england. You can easily spend an hour or 2 exploring it. The cathedral shop is also worth a visit

This is a lovely place to visit and is not just an imposing structure but a real piece of history. I visited on a Saturday but it wasn't notably busy and you could just drift around the artefacts at your own pace. Most pleasing to see were the number of volunteers who were on hand to help with their knowledge and this made the day much more enjoyable and interesting. Some of the ancient finds and coins were on show and particularly interesting. It's certainly one of the finest cathedrals around and I can't imagine anyone feeling disappointed. It's free after all but you do feel it is deserving of a donation when you leave. Great for learning and meeting such friendly people. If you are local and have got friends or family staying with you this is an ideal place to impress!

The cathedral is a superb example of a medieval cathedral. It is large and spacious with a nice 'feel'. All the staff are helpful and the shop has lots of things for all prices to remember your visit. If you are lucky enough to visit when there is a concert or choir on, so much the better the sound is unbelievable. Well worth a visit. Near Christmas they have trees decorated by schools and other groups that are very nice to see and judge.

Its a cathedral like no other. Very Gothic in its appearance it has an air of darkness about it.

I enjoyed spending some time wandering around the grounds with my Nikon taking some spectacular photographs.

Well worth a visit.

This is the warmest ecclesiastical building I've ever visited, whether it full of people or just a few casual visitors. Christmas is a good time to go, to see the crib. The cathedral arranges many concerts and events, mainly in the evenings which are well worth attending. Traditional cathedral otherwise.

The Cathedral dominates the city of Lichfield and is well worth a visit. The Building has a Majestic West Front with statues depicting various Saints and Kings of Mercia still in situ. Once inside, I was greeted by a helpful guide and there is plenty of literature for the visitor. and there is plenty to see once inside the Cathedral. When I was there, (05.11.15), the Cathedral was in the middle of a massive re-wiring project and so access to parts of the North and South Aisle was at times limited, The main attractions, the Chapter House and St. Chad's Head Chapel are well worth a visit. The Stained Glass in the Lady Chapel, originally from Herekenrode Abbey has now been renovated and is back into the windows. These windows are worth a visit alon, but there is so much History and the Cathedral is home to the Lichfield Gospels, dating back to Saxon times and generally on display in the Chapter House (At the moment they are in the British Museum in London). There is an excellent gift and book shop where there are guide books and where photography Permits are available, currently costing £3.00. There is also a gift shop on the Cathedral, in the South West Corner of the Cathedral, but whilst the re-wiring is being done, the only book/gift shop is in the Close. There is also a Well worth a visit and like most Cathedrals, best go round on a guided tour and then go round again to get the photographs.

Despite extensive restoration and rebuilding, the earliest parts of Lichfield cathedral date back over 800 years. It is built of sandstone and has the distinction of being the only medieval Gothic style cathedral with three spires. Of particular note are the flemish stained glass windows which are extremely elaborate and colourful.

Went to see the cathedral as the last time I went I was a child. It is a beautiful cathedral. So much to see and read about, full of history.

I spent a morning exploring the Cathedral with my wife and sister, we opted not to take the guided tour and rambled around by ourselves. It is a beautiful church and if we go back we will take time to do a proper tour.

I've lived and worked in The Close for many years and have worshipped and volunteered for over 30 years. It is the centre and the heart of Lichfield. It is a sanctuary and place of tranquility and repose to be enjoyed by all who visit.

This is an extraordinary building which takes your breath away & that's only the outside, when you get inside it is even more beautiful, a stunning cathedral with a lot of history and a lot to see, so try & get there early to take everything in, unfortunately we were on a coach tour & time was limited, but from what we saw we were in awe. I would most definitely visit again, I live in Sunderland in the North East of England & normally visit Durham Cathedral which I find equally awesome. Well worth a visit,

....although could do with a clean! Stonework now mainly black with decades of dirt/pollution, but the cathedral itself, and the older builders in the close are wonderful and worth strollling round as the highpoint of a City with many great buildings.

What a wonderful surprise as i stumbled out of Erasmus Dickens herb garden! Down a short cobbled land out into the cathedral close and a stunning reddish facade packed with detail... Inside there are friendly, knowledgable guides and labels and signage that delights as it informs... Adding all sorts of info as you move around this wonderful space... And the cathedral shop is worth a nose too!

Take you time to soak in and observe the history of this beautiful building with its three spires. It's free to walk around and there are helpful staff offering information and guide leaflets. It is worth a visit and also worth a donation as you leave!

Stand back from the external front of the cathedral to appreciate the skill of the many craftsmen who have made this building so unique. (Also note the house of Erasmus Darwin is opposite the frontage of the cathedral and is also worth a visit)

The title refers to the three spires - most unique in fact the only medieval cathedral with three spires! The full size carvings as you walk up to the cathedral are very interesting with most of them still in one piece. As you walk in you are greeted by a guide who gives you a leaflet and mentions the things that she recommends you to see. We walked up to the chapel that she mentioned where there was a display of some of the hoard which had been discovered, as recent as 2003, under the flooring in the cathedral including the Lichfield Angel. There was a very helpful gentleman who spent a long time explaining the importance of the hoard. The bosses on the ceilings were very impressive too. A truly beautiful building! We had coffee and cake in their tea room too! The cathedral is situated on a lovely green surrounded by some very varied and attractive buildings. If you have time walk and see the old medieval hospital with 8 chimneys! Unfortunately we only had a 2 hour stay en route to Blackpool on a coach trip but it seems as if there is lots to see here - there was mention of some Roman ruins!

This is a very imposing building the facade is amazing with wonderful carvings. The interior is interesting with wonderful stain glass windows and memorials. The choir area is central with wonderful wooden carvings. If you are expecting lots of guilt or art work like the Catholic Churches then you will be disappointed. The interior has wonderful ceilings and shouldn't be missed if you are in Lichfeild. Splendid.

The highlight of our visit was the Chapter House where a friendly volunteer took time to explain the architecture and a number of exhibits to us including pieces from the Staffordshire Hoard.
