Having seen the cathedral whilst passing through Lichfield today was our first visit. It looked impressive from the outside. We were greeted by friendly staff, one who was apologising for the wait as they were introducing a till at the entrance. Free to enter but donations welcomed. Great stained glass windows and a building of some magnificence.

The cathedral is pretty impressive from the outside. There was a notice outside which stated that there was a service ongoing so we duly entered and stood at the back. The children in the group stood quietly taking in the surrounding until we were approached and basically told to come back after the service in an hour. Unwelcoming staff, don't think we will bother trying again. Such a shame as it would have been a lovely way to end the day.

We really enjoyed walking around this wonderful building and were given lots of background information by the very helpful, pleasant and knowledgeable staff. The location of the cathedral is excellent and a walk around the Close gives views of the entire exterior. Inside there is much to see, all the things you'd expect to find in a building of this type, including some excellent stained glass.

Unbelievable architecture and place of solace
The walk around the grounds and the adjoining lake is a delight and 1 minute walk to the centre of Lichfield

Cathedral full of excited Scouts, Cubs and Beavers on the day we visited, gathered for the St George's Day service, but we still managed to see the wonderful medieval Flemish stained glass windows and the St Chads Gospels. What a treat!

I sometimes work in Lichfield. I can even see the Cathedral from the office. I've just never made the effort to visit. I was spending a little time with a colleague and friend before he moved south and as a local he suggested we visit the Cathedral. So glad we did. It's a very physical space and the immediate area around the Cathedral is beautiful.

We visited the Cathedral on Saturday 23rd April 2016, when we entered the sun had just broke through and lit up every window in the building, it was absolutely wonderful, this set the tone for the whole visit, there was a service being taken (an unexpected pleasure) the cathedral itself although not as big as some we have visited it was a delight.

This is a huge, and beautiful old building. Contains some relics. Learning about the history of the area and cathedral is fairly interesting. It has an interesting contrast of traditional and modern adaption. A hidden giant gem in quiet Lichfield.

The cathedral is set in an attractive precinct, surrounded by interesting pedestrianised streets, with easy parking, good local shops and plenty of places to eat. The building is austere outside, except for the wonderful frontage and the 3 famous spires. Inside there is sublime medieval architecture, a delicate screen, a wonderful early gospel, and original and replica artefacts from the local Saxon horde. There are a couple of surviving wall paintings, and a display of regimental flags in the south transept.

Lovely cathedral to walk around and explore. Beautiful stained glass windows. Interesting to see part of the Staffordshire hoard there. Welcoming and friendly volunteers to answer questions. We didn't seem to spend much time in there at all, but still felt like it was worth it.

From J Boy of Derby

A stunning cathedral with beautiful Flemish stained glass windows.
It has 3 towers the only gothic cathedral in the country to have these.
The cathedral has an interactive Staffordshire hoard exhibition,
the St Chad gospels and the Lichfield angel.
Entry is free donations are invited but no pressure is given
One bit of advice the Chapter House closes at 4 pm whilst the rest of the cathedral stays open till after the evening service

Well worth a visit

Beautiful gothic style cathedral. It is definitely worth a visit. It has three spires which is quite unique. Beautiful stained glass windows. You can also view The Chad gospels early 8th century and they have a special book tour you can attend if booked in advance.

Stunning cathedral - the vaulted ceilings seem to stretch forever into the distance. Lots to see - the beautiful stained glass windows in the Lady Chapel; the Staffordshire Hoard; the Lichfield Gospels; the Lichfield Angel, don't miss the Rummer. Was interested to hear the history of the Pedilavium, haven't seen one before. With its three spires it must surely be unique. The central spire played a part in the Civil War - a royalist sniper shot dead Lord Brooke as he was assessing the action of his Parliamentary army.

Live locally, & children sing here occasionally, but never tire of visiting. Amazing atmosphere, standing outside & looking at the symmetry & scale if the place. Family Carol services at Christmas are lovely, & the Christmas Eve Crib service is a lovely way to start Christmas.
