Going Brazilian at John Olivers!

When I was given the opportunity of trying out a hair straightening technique called a Brazilian Blow Dry, which promised to tame my hair from it's normal 'lets stick out at all angles' to a lovely silky straight style for at least three months, I jumped at the chance.

So off I went to John Olivers in Great Colman Street, Ipswich, excited at the prospect that my normal regime of washing, blow drying and straightening my hair was about to be made alot easier over the next three months.

I was introduced to Becca, a newly trained John Oliver Graduate Stylist, who was going to perform a miracle on my dry, lacklustre, mind of it's own shoulder length hair.  After explaining the process to me the transformation began.  The first thing was to shampoo my hair throughly to wash out any previous products, she then rough dryed my hair before putting on the magic product.

The product is called Keratin Complex Smoothing Therapy by Coppola and what Becca did was to painstakingly paint this lovely nourishing treatment on my hair section by section.  She then placed a not very attractive plastic hair bag on to seal it all in for 20 mins while it performed its' magic.  The magic being the Keratin infuses deep into the hair cuticle eliminating up to 95% or frizz and curl, leaving the hair smooth, shiny and luxurious. What is lovely as well is the fact that there are no chemicals involved.

Attractive hair bag off and then Becca gets to work styling my hair. She asked me exactly how I style my hair as this is how my hair will naturally fall into over the next three months.  I do like a bit of volume in my hair so she used a big brush and then sealed it all in with the straighteners.

To ensure I got the maximum length of time with my now beautiful, smooth, silky locks she explained that I needed to leave it as long as possible before I washed it, not to put any hairbands in it as it will cause a kink, and to avoid getting it wet.  Typical as it happened to be raining outside.  So holding a cover over my hair I made a dash for the car.

Now I am sure you are like me in the fact that you wish you could pop your hairdresser in your wardrobe and let him/her out each time you wash your hair - that has always been the case in the past.  But now after washing it a couple of times it really does do what it says in the promotional material which is:

This treatment will make the hair:

  • Smoother and Silkier
  • Straighter and Shiner
  • Easier and Faster to blow dry
  • Close to being 'maintenance-free

My hair is now an absolute delight and so easy to manage, it natually falls into place, needs limited blow-drying and my straighteners have stayed in the cupboard. All in all so much healthier for my hair.

Happy hair :)
