What is it about Hitchin that makes it so great?

It's been raining, cold and dreary this weekend, but that hasn't stopped Hitchin people getting out and proving why it's such a great place to live.

From early on Friday, there was  team setting up stalls, music and entertainment in the Market Place.

A little rain wasn't going to stop the Christmas tree light swtich-on.

The town was packed and just about every pub, bar and restaurant was enjoying serving the commuity.

Then Saturday morning saw the Market Place transformed into the Hitchin Wine & Food Festival 2014.

Donations were collected for Shelter Box by The Rotary Club of Hitchin Tilehouse, with over 50 rotarians being around to point people in the direction of the wine tasting in the Sun and the various foodie treats on offer.

It takes a lot of hard work to lay on events like this and tidy up afterwards and many of the local businesses were involved with stalls or providing helpers.

That's what makes Hitchin great - people working together either to help others or to promote their busineses. ANd all supported by people who live and work locally - as well as the many visitors who come in.

There's something about being a historic market town that makes us welcoming to small businesses and to visitors. Long may that tradition continue!

Meanwhile, take a walk (or a drive, if it's still raining) through the town to check out the Christmas lights - it's all looking great!
