The Hitchin British Schools Trust

The Hitchin British Schools Trust (HBST) is seeking professionals with senior management experience, who have strong independent and lateral thinking capability and good listening skills, to volunteer their expertise and enthusiasm as:

  • Trustee/Director of Finance
  • Trustee/Director of Heritage
  • Company Secretary

We estimate this will be approximately two days per month, more in the initial year. The Trustee/Director will be required to attend Board and sub-committee meetings as well as Trust development days

The role

The Hitchin British Schools Trust has ambitious plans to secure the future of the British Schools Museum focussing initially on the development of the Grade 2 listed Girls’ and Infants’ School site with the aid of a substantial Heritage Lottery Fund (HLF) grant. HBST has parallel plans to transform the Grade 2* Boys’ School through a major building project and alternative fundraising initiatives.

Key appointments for our strategy are talented and enthusiastic Trustee/Directors who are passionate about their profession, our heritage and the role they can play in a dynamic and developing Board.

This is an exciting time to join the Board which is currently made up of 7 Trustee/Directors, one of whom is the Chairperson.  Each Trustee/Director brings unique professional and leadership experience and is responsible for contributing to the achievement of specific strategic aims.

For more details about the roles and the application process, please contact manager@britishschoolsmuseum.org.uk or go to www.britishschoolsmuseum.org.uk

The British Schools Museum

An award-winning museum, we care for a remarkable set of school buildings including a unique Monitorial schoolroom, a rare Gallery classroom, two Edwardian classrooms and a beautifully recreated Victorian Headmaster’s house.  We have a collection of around 50,000 items from homework to needlework, from games and toys to helping in the home.  These all showcase the daily experience of childhood at school and home.
