So much happening in Hitchin - be a part of it!

This week will see the schools starting up again, with our three secondary schools and North Herts College all providing exceptional education for our children and young people. Their exam results - despite the controversial down-grading of English GCSE marks - demonstrate just how good the education provided in this town is, from nursery through to A levels and vocational courses.

But the summer has been an exciting one, with a visit from the Queen, a near-miss from the torch, which skirted the edges of Hitchin and a hugely successful and creative festival.

As autumn approaches - and we all hope for an Indian Summer in the coming days - there is still lots to get involved with.

Hitchin Town Football Club is embroiled in a complicated saga to do with the ownership and use of Top Field. There's an excellent piece in this week's Comet, setting out a lot of the detail. I haven't spoken to anyone who thinks that a superstore - Tesco or anything else - would be a good thing on the corner opposite Butts Close, but someone somewhere does. There's an opportunity here to support our local football club, which in itself is a good thing.

But first, there's a great Food and Drink Festival planned for next weekend. Don't miss it! All you need to know is here: http://www.thebestof.co.uk/local/hitchin/events/373831/hitchin-food--drink-festival-2012

We do so many things well here in Hitchin and now's your chance to celebrate food and football with the rest of our community.
