ROTW have launched an exciting competition for local music acts to mark the 20th Rhythms of the World (ROTW) festival – with the victors winning a thirty minute performance on stage at the festival on July 9th.

The Routes to Rhythms contest is open to artists of all genres based in Hertfordshire and the final four shortlisted will play at a special event at Hitchin’s Club 85 on March 24th.

To enter the contest, acts must:

o    Have at least 30 minutes of original material

o    Have a maximum of 10 members

o    Be Hertfordshire based

o    Be available to perform at the festival on Saturday July 9 – any time between noon and 8pm

Acts will submit an entry form and a CD or download a file featuring at least three of their best tracks to The Comet website by February 28. The competition is not open to acts that played at ROTW last year.

ROTW will shortlist four bands to play in the final based on quality and originality.

The live final will be held on Thursday March 24 at Club 85, with each act playing for 20 minutes. Judges for the final will be ROTW Performance Director Steve Smither, a representative of The Comet newspaper, which is promoting the competition, a representative of BBC Three Counties and a music industry professional.

Look out in The Comet today and on ROTW website for more details.
