Rhythms of the World plans musical tribute to Faith

Rhythms of the World – the community-based world music event held annually in Hitchin – is holding a free music party to celebrate the life of stalwart volunteer Faith Russell, formerly Houbert, who sadly passed away in August.

The free Party for Faith at Hitchin’s Club 85 will feature three bands that have played at the festival, including one of Faith’s favourites – the Swanvesta Social Club.

‘Faith was a valued and long standing Rhythms of the World volunteer who is already sadly missed,’ said Gill Hannington, Chair of Trustees for Rhythms of the World and a friend of Faith’s. ‘She took on a number of roles during her time with the charity including organising the ticket gate at the new Priory site and being one of the charity’s Trustees. We think she would have been delighted with the idea of a party to celebrate her life and it’s just a small way for us to thank her for her contribution and to show how much we all miss her.’

The event is on Saturday November 13 at Club 85, Whinbush Road. The bands playing are:

  • The Swanvesta Social Club – a colourful and lively Cuban-style rhythm orchestra that had the crowds dancing at this year’s ROTW festival

  • Elaine Simpson and Inspire – gospel and soul singer Elaine is supported by Inspire's backing vocals and the family band, including 11-year-old Morgan on drums.

  • The Rhythms & Blues Band – a ROTW favourite that promises soulful, funky rhythm and blues.

Doors open at 7.45pm, and the concert is free for those aged 16 and over, with ID.
