Plenty to do this weekend

Hitchin Festival has well and truly begun, with events already taking place all over the town. We knew July was going to be a packed month, and so it is proving to be.

The Town Hall has been filled to capacity this week, with parents and friends watching performances by junior schools from around the area. This is where the love of music begins and it's only nine days until we'll see some of our brightest local performers on stage at Rhythms of the World (www.rotw.org.uk).

Don't forget that this weekend sees a weekend of Olympic-themed events all over the town. There's a sport village with stalls and games on the Market Square, plus a Hitchin de Janeiro parade in Bancroft all of Saturday afternoon. The Hitchin Hard Half Marathon takes place in the grounds of the Priory on Sunday for those mad enough to run more than 13 miles. For more information on what's happening, visit www.gohitchin.org.uk and get involved!

We're hiding our disappointment about the torch bypassing us on Saturday, but if you want to see it, go to http://www.london2012.com/torch-relay/route/

All in all, there's loads going on. To find out more about Hitchin Festival, which runs through the whole month, go to http://www.hitchin-festival.co.uk/
