Party in the Square

Hundreds of people turned out, despite the questionable weather forecast, to
enjoy free fun in the Market Square, courtesy of the Churches Together in
Hitchin's 'Party in the Square'.

The free community event featured free barbecue food, inflatables, cakes,
drinks, live music plus craft and charity stalls organised by all the church
groups in the town. The afternoon, which began with an open-air worship
service was book-ended with rain showers before and after but the sun shone
for most of the 4-hour event. The musical line-up included bands from several
Hitchin churches and concluded with a performance by international gospel
and soul star Kym Mazelle, who is an active member of a church in the town.

“We believe hosting the ʻParty in the Squareʼ puts the church into heart of the
town and is a great way to show the community that Christianity is not boring
or irrelevant” said Phil Jackson, who coordinated the party on behalf of
Churches Together in Hitchin. “We trust that by seeing how vibrant the local
Christian community is, people might be tempted to head to their nearest
church to see what is happening!”

Churches Together in Hitchin will be following this event with a town-wide
open night on Friday 6th July when people can visit any of the local churches
to find out more about what they do and how they serve the community. Visit
