Charity fundraising is definitely something people in Hitchin take very seriously. Steve Batchelor, Paul Taylor, Phil Chester and Mark Smith took part in a national four-ball team competition organised by Macmillan Cancer Support.

The challenge began at 4:45am at Chesfield Downs, completing the first round in three hours. Breakfast gave the team the energy to complete the second round in three hours 25 minutes before they had to head off to Mill Green Golf Club in Welwyn.

The third round took nearly four hours and the team was ready for a late lunch, before completing the fourth round in three hours and 25 minutes. At the end of the day (9:15pm as daylight was fading), the team had scored a total of 330 points, 42 under par for their handicaps.

Phil Chester said: "Our gratitude goes to sponsors who made the day possible and all our friends and colleagues who generously dug deep into their pockets for such a worthy cause. Also thanks to Tom Purdy, who accompanied us on three of the rounds."
