Easter, Passover, Vaisakhi - lots going on!

Spring is definitely in the air now and all around Hitchin there are daffodils at their best and buds appearing on trees and in flower beds everywhere.

Today is Passover and yesterday was Baisakhi, an auspicious Pujab festival. This Thursday will see the Queen giving out the traditional Maundy money, with Good Friday and Easter Sunday coming next.

The signs around the town warning of disruption on Saturday for the Vaisakhi procession actually welcome a bit of fun to our streets with a serious religious celebration.

Every year, the Sikh procession is noisy and colourful and if you've never experienced it, get down into the town centre in the middle of the day.

The message behind the Vaisakhi procession is one of celebrating a good harvest and equality among all humans. Few of us would argue with those sentiments.
