Do your job - and do it well

A wise man once walked around with a T-shirt saying 'Just do your job'. Since his job involved getting artists on stage for Roger Waters' star-studded performance of 'The Wall' in Berlin, 1990, he did a pretty awesome job. And he inspired those of us around him to do the same.

It's a similar story with Keith Hoskins, although I can't see him in that T-shirt, somehow.

But he does inspire others to do their job and to do it well. He has a great team around him with the Hitchin Bid and Hitchin Initiative and, as Town Centre Manager, he well deserves the MBE announced today.

So, as we either look back on our achievements in 2014 or set resolutions for 2015, maybe finding a job you can do well and getting on with it is the best start for 2015.

I'm sure most of us will never be nominated for the Queen's Honours list, but it's always good to know you're doing a good job.

It doesn't always take an MBE, but maybe we can all bask in Keith's reflected glory, knowing that the best of Hitchin really are extraordinary people and businesses.

Maybe if we all continue to do the best job we can, then Hitchin will continue to be a great little market town.

Wishing you all the best for a happy and successful 2015, whatever job you do that helps make Hitchin great.
