New pipework is being installed around Hitchin town centre and work is beginning on 1 February outside Waitrose in Bedford Road.
If you often drive through or across Hitchin using the one-way system, you're likely to be held up.
Once Bedford Road is done, work moves to Brand Street, Bancroft, up Hermitage Road, along Queen Street and up to Windmill Hill and Wymondley Road.
Initially, there'll be a lane closure, but there will be some road closures through the whole of the spring and into the summer.
Now might be time for a Walking to School project.
For the rest of us, bearing with the ensuing chaos will hopefully ensure a stable water supply.
