Hitchin Beer & Cider Festival -2013

Wow what an event!  With the ‘temporary’ unavailability of the Town Hall, CAMRA and Hitchin Round Table believed that the ever successful Hitchin Beer & Cider Festival wouldn’t happen in 2013.  That was however, until our new friends at Hitchin Rugby Football Club magnanimously stepped up to the plate.

So it was that we were able to lay on, what turned out to be a fantastic Beer Festival over June 6th, 7th & 8th.  During the course of the three days we served 2119 people, 7500 pints of Ale and 1100 pints of Cider & Perry.  I for one would love to know if the local Chemists saw a spike in Nurofen sales...

The event was always going to be a gamble, what with a new venue, a new date and an additional day.  But wow was it buzzing, especially on Friday evening.  It was fantastic to see so many Hitchin residents and visitors alike, enjoying a drink, a laugh and a bite to eat in the sunshine.  Another great new aspect was that by using the field and selling soft drinks via the Rugby Club bar, the event was much more family friendly than previous years, making it truly an event for the community, organised by the community.

Ultimately I would like to thank all of the volunteers from the three organisations and especially every visitor who turned out to support the event.  Here’s hoping we can make it even bigger and better in 2014.
