Options for Housing Growth

Amber Valley Borough Council has recently launched its latest consultation, entitled Options for Housing Growth, and is now asking for our views regarding the building of new homes throughout the borough.

This consultation is part of the change being brought in under a proposed new law on 'localism' which encourages councils to actively involve local residents and interested parties in decisions about where and how many new homes should be built, and other key decisions about the areas in which we live.

Whilst the consultation seeks our views on where new homes should and should not be built, and the agenda to preserve important green spaces is still very pertinent, the Coalition Government has made it clear that its policy is one of development and growth. Many of us may not want too many new homes to be built in our own local areas, particularly as we are lucky to live in such a green and beautiful county, but the government have further declared that communities accepting growth should benefit from new investment in local infrastructure and services and we should bear this in mind when we respond to these types of consultations.  Most of us think that more should be done to provide such services in Heanor and Ripley, so there is probably a balance to be struck somewhere along the line.

The Council website has all of the information we need to know to be able to respond to the consultation.
