Regular readers of our blog will know that thebestof Heanor and Ripley are involved with the Heanor Task Force, working hard to improve Heanor Town Centre.

Thankfully we're not the only group working to save the town; and there seems to be a real groundswell of activity all working towards a common aim - to restore Heanor to its rightful status as a thriving Market Town.

Recently Derbyshire and Nottinghamshire Chamber of Commerce and the Ripley and Heanor News ran a joint survey to find out more about what local people thought was wrong with Heanor and what could be done to help return it to a fully thriving market town.  The results have now been published, and the findings include:

Main perceived threats

  • Supermarkets
  • Inadequate car parking
  • Crime and anti-social behaviour
  • Growth in online shopping

And how can things be improved

  • Cheaper parking
  • Incentives to encourage retailers into Heanor
  • Co-operation between retailers and businesses
  • Environmental improvements

The Chamber have now formed an action group to take this forward, and are inviting other action groups to contact them with a view to working together.

Local people who want to get involved or follow progress can join the group through their facebook page or can follow our own blog and thebestof Heanor and Ripley facebook page for updates from all the groups working throughout Heanor.
