4/12/2011 Derby Mini Soccer - Under 9 Group 2
Codnor Boys 4-0 Mackworth St Francis

Codnor kept up their winning ways with a comfortable victory over Mackworth. The Racecourse at Derby was very cold and the pitch was muddy. Codnor had beaten Mackworth twice already this season so went into the match in confident mood. Ewan McCracken began the game in goal as Colby O'Hare was unavailable.

After an even start Codnor took the lead when James Dean pounced on a poor goal kick. His powerful shot hit the roof of the net and gave the keeper no chance. Shortly afterwards Liam Shelton went on a mazy run out of defence. His pass reached Ben Richards who's crisp shot beat the keeper at the near post. James Dean added a third just before half time when his shot was half blocked but trickled over the line. James Dean must be one of the most dangerous strikers in the league and his goalscoring record for Codnor has been exceptional for the last 2 1/2 seasons.

Noah Wright and Lewis Hartshorne both took turns in goal in the second half. Lewis producing the best save of the match on a rare Mackworth attack. Lewis Walker added the fourth goal with a cross/shot that deceived the keeper. He is scoring some valuable goals from midfield. The game became more scrappy. Mackworth players spent a lot of time injured on the ground which didn't help the flow of the game. Again Codnor never looked like conceding and this win consolidates their position of 2nd in the league.
