22/1/2012 Derby Mini Soccer. Under 9's Group 2
Codnor Boys 3-0 Etwall

Codnor produced their best performance of the season with an emphatic victory over Etwall.

Codnor began the day in 3rd place in the table, one place below Etwall so a tough game was expected. Codnor lost the toss and began the game kicking into a very strong wind. Codnor attacked from the kick off and after James Dean was fouled, Noah Wright scored direct from the free kick to put Codnor 1-0 up in the 1st minute. Codnor continued to attack and the impressive Bradley Pearson scored a great solo goal to double the lead. Etwall failed to take advantage of the wind. Liam Shelton was majestic in defence, Lewis Walker and Ben Greaves were tigerish in midfield and Codnor reached half time 2-0 up.

With the wind now in their favour Codnor continued to dominate the 2nd half. Tanaka Muchechesi and Ben Richards were prominent as Codnor forced a series of corners and dominated territorially. With time running out Ben Richards shot was parried by Etwall's keeper and James Dean scored his customary goal from the rebound.

This was a fantastic performance from Codnor in difficult conditions. Goalkeeper Ewan McCracken had little to do. All Codnors players won their individual battles and played as a team working for each other. Noah Wright was even praised by the referee for his sportsmanship - and that doesn't happen every week!

Codnor now move above Etwall into 2nd place with 5 league games remaining.
