Langley Mill’s Sunday eleven strolled to the Mansfield League Section 4 title with an easy victory in the gloom at Staveley Welfare. Under heavy clouds with rain falling, the Millers got the victory they needed to lift the title with two games still to play.

Batting first, Langley Mill racked up 237 for 5 from their 40 overs. Dave Farnsworth with 71 and Jordan Fredrickson, 42 not out, were the main contributors, with Jack Scott and Neil Wing both hitting 28. Stuart Mee hit a quick unbeaten 26 at the end of the innings.

For Staveley, Joe Bullimore returned figures of 2 for 68 and there was a wicket each for Brandon Groves and Jake Vernon.

The Staveley reply never gained the momentum to challenge the Millers total, despite 26 from opener Jake Vernon. Ryan Bates hit 36 and Bullimore 22 before they were both dismissed by Mee, who went on to destroy the middle order bagging 6 for 35.

Only Reece Drabble (19) and Joel Whybrow (10) offered resistance late on but in the gathering gloom Staveley were dismissed for 151, 86 runs short of the Millers total.

Apart from Mee, Luke Rowley bowled well for his 2 for 39, while Rich Davey and Jay Holmes picked up a wicket apiece.

Scores: Staveley Welfare (4pts) 151 all out [38.2 overs] (R Bates 36, S Mee 6-35) lost to Langley Mill Utd (20pts) 237-5 [40 overs] (D Farnsworth 71, J Fredrickson 42*) by 86 runs
