Alfreton Town Juniors help Codnor Boys Celebrate New Clubhouse

We knew that there was a Community Open Day at the Goose Lane Sports Club in Codnor this weekend, but a chance phone call alerted us to the fact that Codnor Boys had arranged their own special celebration, inviting Alfreton Town Juniors along for a series of short friendly matches to mark the opening of their new clubhouse.

When we arrived the afternoon was in full swing, with different matches underway across the 3 pitches, a bouncy castle slide and a BBQ entertaining the spectators.

The new clubhouse also boasts a serving hatch, and they were doing a great trade in cold drinks as the afternoon warmed up and the sun came out.

The football itself was fun to watch, with the emphasis from both clubs clearly on participation and having fun, as well as trying your best. The kids all seemed to be enjoying themselves, and there were certainly some very impressive skills on show, as well as a couple of cracking goals scored.

After the match, Alfreton Town Juniors presented Codnor Boys with a pennant in their team colours of red and white as a lasting memento of the ocassion, before the little players all took off for the lure of the bouncy castle and burgers and hot dogs.

It was a fantastic show of local clubs supporting each other, and we'd like to echo the comments of the Alfreton Town Juniors Manager, Tel Greenwood in wishing Codnor Boys a long and successful future with their new facilities.
