Your guide to looking fabulous this summer

If you’re anything like me, being invited to a wedding is a double edged sword.

Of course, you are delighted to share in the celebrations, get dressed up and spend a day or night away from home. But it also means a new dress or getting the suit dry cleaned, battling to get that ‘dragged through a hedge backwards’ hair into some semblance of a style, getting rid of the weeks-old nail varnish... shall I go on?

A holiday can often mean the same thing – all good intentions to get the perfect beach body but after battling – unsuccessfully – to avoid the chocolate biscuits, cake and chips, I at least want to make sure that I'm not a hairy, ragged-nailed beast before stepping on to the beach.

So rather than approaching the day of the wedding or holiday with a slight sense of dread as you realise that your half hearted efforts will be on display forever more via the wonderful invention of Facebook (untag, untag!), why not get the professionals to primp, prune and style you into a god or goddess?

Barnet not playing ball? If you are tired of the run-of-the-mill hairdressers or barbers, you should get yourself down to Avant Garde in Haverhill. Owned by Vidal Sassoon trained stylist, Westley Hellen, Avant Garde is at the cutting edge of the latest male and female hair trends and fashions, ensuring a cut with the ‘wow’ factor.

Looking more like Wurzel Gummage than Aunt Sally? Indulge yourself in a wide range of beauty treatments at Haverhill’s Arevolution, including:

  • Lash extensions, eyelash and brow tinting
  • Manicures and pedicures
  • Nail extensions, overlays and art

And for you men, there’s a Gentlemen’s Club, which includes manicures, pedicures, eyebrow tidies, back and chest waxing and massages, all tailored to male clientele.

Struggling to find anything to wear? In addition to being a bridal boutique, Amanda Julia Couture is home to a stunning selection of eveningwear, with designer gowns from D’Zage and Venus in stock. There is also a wide range of men's formalwear available. Perhaps not for the beach, but perfect for making a statement at that wedding!

And of course, an outfit isn't quite complete without the perfect jewellery to set it off, so head down to Tony Strowger Jewellers in Haverhill to browse the beautiful range of bespoke and designer pieces.
