Do you know somebody worthy of carrying the Olympic flame?

Nominations are open for 8,000 people to be chosen as inspirational torchbearers to carry the Olympic flame as it tours the UK.

The London 2012 Olympic torch will make an 8,000 mile journey over 70 days, touring the UK before arriving at the Olympic stadium for the opening ceremony of the games on Friday 27th July 2012.

The tour aims to take the flame to within an hour's journey of 95% of the British population, bringing the excitement of the games to those who may otherwise feel excluded from the London based event.

It is expected that some of the walkers, runners and wheelchair users carrying the flame will be made up of a selection of famous sports personalities and celebrities but the majority will be members of the public. London 2012 chairman, Sebastian Coe has announced that half of the torch bearers chosen will be between 12 and 24 years of age and the remainder of those chosen will be people with a background of local achievement or inspirational community leadership.

Nominations are open from 18th May until 30th June 2011. If you know of somebody you believe to be truly inspirational, who lives the Olympic values of friendship, excellence and respect and deserves to be nominated as reward for their continuous hard work visit www.london2012.com/olympictorchrelay for the full nomination process.
