Otherwise known as the ‘Celebration of 2012’, the 2012 St Edmundsbury Sports Awards is taking place on Friday 28th September at The Apex in Bury St Edmunds.

After what has probably been one of the most exciting years in sport that Great Britain has ever seen, the event is the perfect opportunity to celebrate the country’s achievements and showcase the talent and commitment of the sportsmen and women based in Haverhill and St Edmundsbury.

Around 300 guests will be attending the 2012 St Edmundsbury Sports Awards, with 14 awards up for grabs, which range from Unsung Hero to Contribution to Disability Sport. In addition to recognising talented local athletes, the prizes are also to thank the dedicated and passionate coaches and volunteers who work so hard to ensure that our area’s 60-plus sports clubs and over 40 schools delivering sport in the curriculum run as smoothly as possible and encourage children and adults to be active.

With this in mind, becoming a sponsor of one of the 2012 St Edmundsbury Sports Awards is a great way for local businesses to show their appreciation and support the local community. By becoming part of the ‘Celebration of 2012’, you will have access to a range of award options and sponsorship packages, and could be the sponsor of one of the two new awards, the ‘Elite Sportsperson of the Year Award’, which targets athletes that compete at a national or international level, and the ‘People’s Champion Award’, which will be voted for by the people of St Edmundsbury and shown or displayed in the Haverhill Echo, Bury Free Press, Haverhill Leisure Centre and The Apex in Bury St Edmunds.

Most of the awards are being sponsored at £350; however, due to the prestigious nature of the ‘Elite Sportsperson of the Year Award’ which is aimed at such athletes as Haverhill Paralympian, Caroline Mclean and international road racer, Brian Alldis, who is hoping to go to Rio 2016, this award attracts a sponsorship fee of £3,500.

Sponsors will have the opportunity to advertise within The Apex and nominate a representative to present their sponsored award. With a number of Haverhill sportspeople and clubs being nominated this year – including Haverhill Running Club and Haverhill Ladies Hockey Club – the Awards organisers would love to see a Haverhill business presence in the night’s sponsors.

Please contact Michelle Banfield-Curran from Abbeycroft Leisure on 01284 753 496 for more information and to become a sponsor.
