What can I do with the kids in Haverhill this May Half Term?

May Half Term is taking place between 27th May and 31st May and unlike the Autumn and Spring Half Term breaks where you can pretty much guarantee that the weather will be awful, the Summer Half Term brings with it a sense of hope; hope that maybe, just maybe the sun will shine and activities won't be limited to those that take place indoors.

Now I don't have a crystal ball, and with the unsettled weather continuing (I went out yesterday in flipflops, but with a hat and brolly in my bag!), I don't want to be blamed if the week the kids are off in Haverhill descends into a flood-ridden nightmare. But I am going to try to stay positive and fingers crossed, the children will be able to benefit from just a little Vitamin D!

Get on your bike!

Good weather doesn't automatically have to mean sunbathing, barbecues and general loafing... why not get the kids out and about, and introduce them to the world of bike riding? I have fond memories of bike rides with my own family; my mum streaking on ahead at what seemed like 100 miles per hour as my dad puffed and panted up the hill...

If you don't have the right kit – or are lacking the bikes in the first place – Aerocycles in Haverhill will soon get you out on the open road. Known as Suffolk's dedicated cycling store, Aerocycles caters for all levels of bike riders, whether you are looking for an all-singing, all-dancing mountain bike or your child's very first bicycle.

And with experienced and friendly staff on hand to help you select the right bike, helmet and accessories for your needs and budget, you can ride away, safe in the knowledge that you have been given honest, reliable advice.

School's out!

If the weather isn't fantastic – or you are trying to juggle the May Half Term with work responsibilities, Haverhill Leisure Centre and its 'School's Out Holiday Camps', which are running from Tuesday 28th May to Friday 31st May 2013 could be the answer. Now available for children aged six and over and costing from just £9.99 per day, places are limited so we recommend that you book very soon!

And why? Well, what child wouldn't love athletics, cycling, swimming (over 8s only), team sports, football, film afternoons, arts and crafts, basketball, Laser Blast, squash and much more? And what parent wouldn't love to know that their children are safe, sound and being active?

'Camp' in a tree!

Dizzy's Day Nursery's Tree House Holiday Club is open during May Half Term as well as all other school holidays, teacher training days, strike days and school closures.

Available for children between 5 and 11, the out-of-school club includes creative activities, games, outdoor activities such as den building, and dance, drama and music days, in addition to trips to the cinema, park or sports centre.

Relatives descending?

If you're planning on using May Half Term as an opportunity to see friends and family, but your house simply isn't large enough to accommodate the crowds, why not suggest that they stay at Days Inn Haverhill? Rooms start at just £72.25, and with eight family rooms, complete with a rollaway bed, full-size bath and over-bath shower, plus a number of pet-friendly rooms, you can bring the whole family!

Enjoy modern, clean facilities, the Kingfisher Bar and plenty of family friendly pubs and restaurants within easy walking or driving distance.
